About the Author
Carol Shields Carol Shields (1935-2003), Canadian novelist, poet and playwright, moved to Canada from Illinois. Well known as a fiction writer, she has won many prizes, including the Pulitzer for "The Stone Diaries" (1993). Among her fiction is "Larry's Party" (1997), and her plays include "Departures and Arrivals" (1990) and "Thirteen Hands" (1993). In 1997 Borealis republished two poetry books -- "Others" (1972) and "Intersect" (1974) -- and a book of criticism: "Susanna Moodie: Voice and Vision" (1976).
